Teledyne RD Instruments has agreed to sponsor a limited number of complimentary one-year student memberships to the Marine Technology Society.  The free memberships are open to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a marine science or a technology program.

STEM Teaching Scholarships

The AFCEA Educational Foundation will offer scholarships of $5,000 to students actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate education degree for the purpose of teaching STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) subjectsat a U.S. middle or secondary school.   Applications Deadline: June 10.

Marine Technology Society Scholarships and Free Student Memberships

Teledyne RD Instruments is sponsoring a limited number of complimentary 1-year student memberships to MTS. The free memberships are open to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a marine science or a technology program. Student members receive Currents as well as online access to the MTS Journal. Students interested in applying for this free membership should contact michael.hall@mtsociety.org. 

MTS scholarships. Approximately $60,000 in scholarships are awarded annually to both graduate and undergraduate students studying marine science and technology. Click here for more information on MTS scholarships. The deadline for scholarship applications is April 15, 2010.

Scholarship Opportunities – NSF Robert Noyes Scholarship Program

The National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program supports talented science, technology, engineering, and mathematics majors and professionals to become K-12 mathematics and science teachers. The Noyce Scholarship Track provides funds to institutions of higher education to support scholarships, stipends, and academic programs for undergraduate STEM majors graduate students holding STEM degrees who earn a teaching credential and commit to teaching in high-need K-12 school districts.   The NSF Teaching Fellowship/Master Teaching Fellowship Track supports two groups:  STEM professionals who enroll as NSF Teaching Fellows in master’s degree programs leading to teacher certification, providing academic courses, professional development, and salary supplements while they fulfill a four-year teaching commitment in a high-need school district; and NSF Master Teaching Fellows, providing professional development and salary supplements for exemplary mathematics and science teachers to become Master Teachers in high-need school districts.  Deadline for letters of intent 2/9/10.  An online seminar providing more information about the program and applications will be held Wednesday, 2/3/10; to register for the webinar go to the NSF events calendar.

Student Programs at SEA in Woods Hole, Massachusetts

The new 2010/2011 SEA Semester catalogue is now available for download.  Based in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, SEA has educated students about the world’s oceans for nearly 40 years through a fully accredited study abroad program combining the sciences, humanities, social sciences, and public policy. Intense coursework and preparation during the shore component is followed by the immediate application of students’ newfound knowledge during the sea component.
