The National Marine Educators Association features “summer opportunities for teachers” in the spring issue of NMEA News, and is soliciting listings. Submit opportunities for teachers and/or their students to johnette.bosarge@usm.edu or nmea@usm.edu, including:  a 50- to 60-word paragraph describing the workshop or field trip, including a website for more information, and a contact person. Deadline for submissions is Friday, 2/5/10, to be published online in mid-March.

Internship – Spring in the Caribbean

Environmental Protection In the Caribbean  is seeking an environmental education intern for the period March-April 2010. The internship takes place on the island of St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles. The intern would work within the Love the Lagoon Project to protect the Simpson Bay Lagoon, one of the largest lagoons in the West Indies, providing interactive presentations to primary and secondary school students about the importance of wetlands. Internships – Summer in North Carolina

The Bald Head Island Conservancy of southeastern North Carolina is offering four internship opportunities for Summer 2010,as Environmental Educators, Sea Turtle Conservationists, Kayak Guides, and Wildlife Naturalist.  The Intern Program is open to rising juniors, seniors or recent graduates from any accredited college or university, with majors in biology, marine biology, environmental science, education, or a related course of study.  Deadline for applications is 2/12/10.

Internship – Ocean Literacy Summit Planning, MA/NH

The New England Ocean Science Education Collaborative (NEOSEC), as part of its commitment to promoting Ocean Literacy in the region, hosts biannual Ocean Literacy Summits for formal and informal educators, scientists, and policymakers to share ideas and tools for doing so.  Plans are underway for the 2010 Ocean Literacy Summit, to be held November 12, 2010 at the University of New Hampshire, with presentations and discussions highlighting the great diversity of life and ecosystems supported by the ocean.  We seek an intern to process and track registrations, and generally assist NEOSEC’s Summit Planning Committee.  For more information and to apply, contact Mona Chang at mchang@neaq.org.

Internships – NSF Research Experience for Undergrads, ME

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences will host eight NSF-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduate participants in summer 2010, for research topics ranging from microbial oceanography to large-scale processes that drive interactions between ocean ecosystems and the global environment, focusing on the marine microbial food web, ocean biogeochemistry, optical oceanography, remote sensing, sensory biology, climate change, and fisheries oceanography.
