Ocean Policy Taskforce Requests Public Comments

The Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force is requesting input on its activities from interested parties. The Task Force asks that comments focus on any of the five key issues identified in the June 12 Presidential Memorandum: a national ocean policy, a framework for policy coordination, implementation strategies, marine spatial planning, and emerging issues on ocean, coasts, and Great Lakes policy.  Presidential Memorandum

Job Opening – Education Center Director, Maine

The Downeast Institute for Applied Marine Research and Education seeks an experienced, innovative professional with excellent communications skills for the position of Education Center Director. This is a full-time, 24-month position, with renewal contingent on funding and job performance. The Education Center Director will coordinate all education activities at the Downeast Institute associated with a grant from the National Science Foundation’s Partnerships for Innovation program. These activities include developing an original, inquiry-based curriculum focused on marine science education, offering workshops for in-service teachers,
developing and delivering summer programs at the Center for youth, organizing regular meetings of the partnership team from the University of Maine at Machias, Maine Sea Grant, Washington County Community College, and the Downeast Institute, and working with team members on other educational activities. Successful grant-writing ability will be required to secure ongoing funding for salary and educational programs. This position is based at the Downeast Institute in Beals, Maine.

Casco Bay Film Festival

Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival hosted by Friends of Casco Bay, on Saturday, October 3rd 5-8:45 p.m., in Abromson Auditorium on University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus. This event, to benefit Friends of Casco Bay, features a selection of award-winning films, food catered by Whole Foods, and a cash bar. Doors open at 4 p.m. $15 in advance/$20 at the door. Tickets go on sale September 1st online or in person at Whole Foods Market, Portland.
